- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour, butter, sugar, salt, and baking powder until crumbly.
- Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix the apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar.
- Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples.
- Brush the top with beaten egg.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool before serving.
