  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, olive oil, garlic, and herbs to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope.
  7. Braid the ropes together and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Cover the braid and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a golden crust, brush the braid with an egg wash before baking.
